Job Opening: Versatile Music Therapist
Want to use your years of training, in combination with your natural strengths as a connector and innovator, to provide clinical music therapy services as well as music therapy-based supportive programs in a wide variety of settings?
Do you want the opportunity to serve people from all walks of life because, maybe you’ve experienced the exhaustion of working immersively with one primary population? Or, you know that your strengths as a music therapist extend beyond the constraints of one modality, theoretical framework, or group of people?
We are a values-driven organization, focused on bringing high-quality and innovative services to individuals, families, and agencies to help them cultivate connections, facilitate meaningful moments, and ultimately experience a greater quality of life, for our clients and those that support and care for them.
We are hiring a Board-Certified Music Therapist to:
- Plan, provide, and document evidenced-based music therapy sessions
- Coordinate clinical and logistical details with multiple treatment teams
- Develop and lead music therapy based supportive programs
- Contribute innovative ideas to support current and future clients as well as the long-term vision of Noteable
You are a person of action, an achiever. You thrive when juggling multiple projects and deadlines, and you certainly don’t need someone holding your hand to get things done.
At least once a week you start a sentence with, “This might be a terrible idea, but what if we…”.
You enjoy showing the world what excellent music therapy services and personable professionalism look like!
Let’s get the bad news out of the way first:
- This is an in-person, face-to-face position that will require a moderate amount of travel between agencies that we serve. We work to limit and consolidate the travel time, and you do get paid for driving between clients, but there is windshield time. If you’re a fan of podcasts and audio books like the rest of our team, you may actually look forward to it.
- If you are looking to specialize in one population, this is not the position for you.
Now, let’s talk about the good stuff:
- This can be a full or part time music therapy position. (Our preference would be full time.) Either way, if you are wanting to start or keep a part-time music therapy side gig, this is not the position for you. We need someone who is all-in on our clients and embodies a shared commitment towards our common vision.
- You will be working with a team of music therapists who support each other, professionally and personally. Need to brainstorm the best way to support a client? Yes, please! Want to commiserate about the great session you planned that totally flopped? We’ve been there! Taking time off for vacation? Great! Let’s collaborate to get your clients covered.
- We are not big on stress! While we will expect you to work efficiently and relatively independently, we focus on open communication and getting things done right the first time.
- The work and the work environment is fun, fresh, and dynamic. No two weeks are the same!
- You will do things, have experiences, and make decisions that no typical staff music therapy job would ever allow you to do. You will be able to help guide the direction of the development of the business and foster your own professional niche should you choose.
- You’ll have a ton of autonomy. There will be lots of opportunity to bring your ideas to the table and own them. Really! We want you to take charge and be creative to get the results!
Okay, let’s talk about the job requirements:
- We are looking for someone with solid and diverse music therapy skills: clinically and musically. Ideally you would thrive on leading a Pre-K social emotional group, an individual mental health session, a group for adults with varying abilities/needs, an individual IEP session, and a group for clients with dementia – maybe all in the same day (but probably not)!
- Demonstrate a solid understanding of the fundamentals of music therapy, be able to apply them seamlessly across various ages and goal areas, and communicate about your work in a professional yet easily understood fashion.
- You will have a full caseload. Every day, you will have music therapy sessions to lead as well as a list of other stuff: clinical, logistical, administrative, and more. Someone who is good with details and time management would be the best fit. You need to be able to manage your priorities, efforts/energy, and self-care accordingly.
- Flexibility! Flexible in how you support the clients. Flexible with your job duties. Flexible with your schedule. (We believe in give and take with that one!)
- You need to be a person who loves to deliver remarkable experiences to other people. You exude confidence and warmth, not because it’s a great way to establish rapport, but because that’s just who you are!
- We are big on community, both participating in and hosting events local to Frederick, MD as well as fostering community within our team. Logistically, this works best if you live (or are willing to relocate) within 30-45 minutes of Frederick, MD.
In short, your job is to support our clients and community while demonstrating shared commitment to the success and growth of the organization by working towards the common vision of our founder and team – and to have fun at work (who wants a job that isn’t fun?). Our office is casual, but we do expect professionalism and punctuality.
What we don’t expect is perfectionism or 20 years of experience for you to qualify for this job. We expect intelligence, energy, and, above all, a figure-it-out and get-it-done attitude. When you have questions, you will find the answers with a quick shoutout from your desk or on Slack to anyone else on our team.
In addition to being a detailed person, you must follow systems and processes. In fact, just to prove that you are detailed oriented and can follow procedures, when you apply for this position, after you complete the online application, send us a follow-up email with the subject line “Noteable Rocks” and include one interesting fact about yourself that we wouldn’t know from the rest of your application.
We are looking to bring on our new team member ASAP, but we will spend the necessary time to find the best fit both in abilities and culturally. One thing that will give you a big leg up (but is optional) is to send a quick video along with your application. In your video tell us why you think you’re perfect for this job and why you will rock this position. This is purely for us to get a sense of your personality. And if you decide not to send a video (that’s ok), please tell us why you chose not to send in a video.
We can’t wait to meet you!!!
